“I love you, Beau.”
I love you, Robin. Jimmy gulped back a puppy tear.
I’m thinking fast here, kid. I’m not gonna let this thing, whatever it is, beat you...er, us. You’ve got me now. We can do it.
When they reached the parking garage, the attendant gave them a ticket and directed them to the fifth level.
“Oh, gosh. We’re almost there,” Robin clutched Beau.
“I thought we’d roll down the windows a bit and leave Beau in the car until we come back,” Hal said.
Leave me here? At a time like this? Are they crazy? How can I help if I don’t come along. Talk to them, kid.
“Daddy, I...I have to take Beau with me. He makes me feel stronger.”
“He does?” Robin’s mother was surprised. “Well, you’ve certainly bonded quickly.”
Jimmy looked around the backseat. Just then he spied Robin’s back pack. Quickly, he scrambled out of Robin’s lap and leaped over his legs onto the back pack. With his nose he tried to lift the flap. I’ll be a stowaway.
“Stowaway?” Robin repeated the word aloud.
Beau stopped working and twisted his head around to face Robin.
You heard me?
Robin clamped his hand over his mouth, chuckling.
I can’t believe it! The kid and I have telepathy. Jimmy raised his eyes heavenward. Thank you for that Mr. Angel. Or Angel or whoever you are.
